2 February 2025 Covered Market Update

Good afternoon everyone,

Just a quick one this week. It's been a busy start to the year, with new faces joining the team and big plans being hatched for the next twelve months. We will soon return to being open on Thursdays, and will confirm the date in next week's newsletter. We also haver an update on our Covered Market operation. The bad news is that the Kiosk will be closed for the next two weeks. The good news is that we are in the process of making some alterations to the units and have some exciting news to share very soon. Watch this space.

The pastry counter will continue to feature Cook's Yorkshire Rhubarb in the financiers and atop the custard buns. There will also be some available to buy in the shop amongst our fresh produce selection. Also look out for peak season blood oranges and the usual array of pristine leafy greens from Styan Family Produce - the purple sprouting broccoli is on particularly good form at the moment.

With extra hands in the back, we have a couple of specials this week. Tubs of rice pudding return and we're also making some cherry and Seville orange cakes - same size as the Dundee and Ginger cakes we did over Christmas.

Lincolnshire Poacher was the first cheese we ever stocked at the bakery. It filled our first ever heritage rolls and was the first cheese we portioned to sell. Happily, it's just as good now as it was then. Neal's Yard Dairy describe it as "West Country Cheddar meets Comte" - need we say more? Joining it on the cold plate this week is Castillon Affine, a true farmhouse cheese from the Luberon mountains in Provence. Made with the milk from a flock of just one hundred and twenty Sarda Sheep, it has a rich texture and just the right amount of farmyard tang.

That's all for now, hope the sun is shining on your Sunday,

Kate and Hugo
