Good afternoon dear readers,
Firstly thank you to everyone who came to see us on Wednesday. It was a very promising start to the five day week and the sunshine was on our side too.
Coming up this weekend is Mother's Day, which we view as a chance to celebrate care-givers, mother figures and supportive mentors of all kinds. Aunties play a particularly key role in our lives and always have done, so we often use this as an opportunity to show them some love, usually with a bunch of daffodils and some British farmhouse cheese (we've got you, Auntie Clare). If your special person leans more towards the sweet than the savoury, we are taking care of afternoon tea. You can preorder a box of four buttery sweet scones, with a jar of our forced rhubarb jam and a tub of Ivy House clotted cream. Only available on Sunday. We'll also be making the salted vanilla fudge that was so popular at Christmas, which will be available in the retail fridge all week long.
Other menu highlights include white chocolate and walnut shortbread, made with the elusive Pump Street white chocolate, rhubarb karpatka (the Polish choux pastry cream cake) and Grasmere style gingerbread lives to fight another week. You keep asking, we'll keep making. Needless to say, the hot cross buns keep coming. Easter biscuits and Simnel cake will land shortly.
Finally, the wine shelves are due a spring clean in anticipation of some new arrivals over the coming weeks, so there are some bargains to be taken advantage of - yes, it's a wine sale...
Tavkeri Rose - red fruits and peppery spice dominate this dark pink / light red from Georgia. Was £23, now£19
Le Fond de l'Air est Rouge - juicy Cinsault from very old vines high in the hills of Roussillon. Was £23, now£19
Cheverny Blanc Frileuse - classy blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Fie Gris from a legendary natural estate in the Loire. Was £25, now £21
Champagne Rosé de Meunier - grower Champagne that delights and stimulates. So delicious. Was £47, now £36
That's all for this week. We wish you the very best and thank you for reading,
Kate and Hugo
